Announcements

September 2016 - Rob Klein was a principal speaker at the ABA’s National Conference on the Professional Liability of Attorneys, addressing Advanced Techniques for Trying the “Case Within a Case.” The panel discussion included four attorneys with extensive trial experience in trying legal malpractice actions. The discussion focused on presenting or defending claims against attorneys, where there is an issue as to the viability of the underlying claim that was handled by the defendant attorney.

July 2016 - The Firm is delighted to congratulate founding partner Rob Klein for being honored by the Miami Dade County Bar Association as a “Legal Luminary” in the field of legal malpractice. The voting was by members of the Miami Dade County Bar Association, and selected the top practitioner in each area of specialization. This was the first peer review award of its kind given out by the Miami Dade County Bar Association.

June 2016 - Miami Law Hosts Florida Lawyers Professional Liability Seminar - Miami Law’s Center for Ethics & Public Service (CEPS) and a consortium of Florida's leading professional liability law firms led by Miami-based Klein GlasserPark & Lowe (KGPL) recently colloborated to present the first annual Florida Lawyer's Professional Liabilty Seminar. The seminar, which brought together lawyers from throughout South Florida, was the realization of years of discussion between Professor Anthony Alfieri, founder and director of CEPS, and Rob Klein, managing partner of KGPL. Klein invited other professional liability attorneys, insurance companies, and the Florida Bar to join the planning committee for the initial seminar, which they hope will become one of the major legal malpractice and professional liability conferences in the nation.

This year's conference brought together approximately 35 lawyers for a half day seminar that included panels on Recent Trends in Lawsuits Against Lawyers (and How to Avoid Them),Best Practices for Avoiding Ethical Landmines in the Practice of Law, and A Strategic Approach to Insurance and Risk Management for Lawyers and Law Firms. The panelists engaged the attendees in thought provoking and animated discussions about issues that impact not only malpractice attorneys, but also the entire legal profession. The speakers addressed common areas of exposure for both transactional and litigation attorneys, and for any number of different specialties.

The speakers and attendees enthusiastically agreed that the seminar should be just the beginning of an annual gathering to discuss significant issues in the profession in an environment that will ensure both educational and networking opportunities for the Florida bar and the insurance industry. At the same time, the seminar promoted a wide-ranging discussion on a number of important issues by lawyers who are regularly engaged to defend other attorneys in this state..

Professor Alfieri commented: "The summer launch of the Florida Lawyers’ Professional Liability Seminar at UM Law's Center for Ethics & Public Service gathered the best and brightest from the Florida professional liability community – law firms, regulatory agencies, and insurance companies – to address cutting edge issues in the fields of ethics, law, and public policy."

Rob Klein added that the seminar was the fulfillment of a long-standing dream to present Florida attorneys with valuable insight into the daily risks faced by practitioners, along with the tools necessary to dramatically limit that exposure. Klein hopes that the seminar will ultimately develop into a full day annual conference.

October 2015 - Alex Diaz and Mark Sullivan were speakers on lawyer liability issues at the Florida Defense Lawyers’ Association’s 2015 Advanced Litigation Boot Camp, presenting their lecture “Staying Out of Trouble: Practical Attorney Guidance for Avoiding Civil and Ethical Exposure.”

October 2015 - The Firm is proud to announce that partner Robert Klein has been appointed to the Supreme Court’s Committee on Standard Jury Instructions on Civil Cases. The Committee considers modifications to existing instructions and the addition of new instructions on all forms of civil claims, including professional liability claims, commercial claims, construction litigation, contract actions and personal injury matters.

August 2015 - The Firm is delighted to announce that Richard Jones has been named Partner.

Effective January 1, 2015, the Firm is delighted to announce that Alex Diaz has been named Partner.

December 31, 2014 - Jim Pelstring has retired. Jim Pelstring and Rob Klein have known each other since law school. Jim’s first tenure with the old Stephens Lynn Firm began in the early 80s, when Rob Klein told Pete Stephens that he would want Jim to defend him if he was ever sued. Jim ultimately left Stephens Lynn to form his own firm in Miami, and moved back to Ohio to raise his children. Remarkably, he agreed to move back to Florida to establish the Ft. Meyers office for the Stephens Lynn Firm and then later the Klein Glasser Firm. Unfortunately, as is the case with all good things, this too has come to an end. Jim has retired.

Jim is going to continue into his next career as a mediator. While the Firm is saddened by the loss of his considerable legal talent, we nevertheless wish Jim well in his next endeavor. We have every reason to expect that he will be every bit as good as a mediator as he has been as an attorney. We wish you well, Jim, and happiness in your new endeavor. Thank you for all of your years as a trial attorney and mentor. You will be missed.

ITS BEEN A GREAT RUN...

Over thirty-five years ago, Jon Lynn and Rob Klein joined Pete Stephens in what was then a small Miami defense firm, which was ultimately to become the Stephens Lynn Klein Firm. Over the course of the next ten years, six lawyers became sixty, and the Firm added additional offices throughout the state. Over the thirty-five year history of the Firm, the attorneys at Stephens Lynn tried in excess of a thousand jury trials and handled hundreds of appeals. The Firm is proud of its track record and the development of many attorneys in this state, who have become prominent Members of the Florida Bar, including several members of the judiciary.

Effective February 14th,2011, Jon will be joining Chimpoulis, Hunter & Lynn, P.A. in Davie, Florida. The Stephens Lynn Firm will be renamed Klein Glasser Park & Lowe, PL. Klein Glasser will continue to practice out of the former Stephens Lynn offices in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Ft. Myers.

Jon and Rob would like to personally thank the many lawyers who have helped to establish Stephens Lynn Klein as a premier trial Firm in Florida, along with the paralegals and hundreds of staff members – many of who have been with the Firm for twenty-five years or more – who have been integral in the Firm’s success.

We recognize that change may occasionally be necessary to ensure personal and professional vitality. We look forward to new challenges, working with the Florida professional community and our other clients for many years to come.
